Volunteers:

The Framework of The ARK

He who is gracious to the poor lends to the Lord.

—Proverbs 19:17

From the start, The ARK was determined to offer an opportunity for members of the community to care for and help others. This forum for volunteerism is as important as the services we provide. At The ARK, you can express your concern for humanity by volunteering to help the less fortunate.

Today, nearly 300 volunteers from many professions and all walks of life—doctors, secretaries, lawyers, retirees, even school children—are the heart of our organization, helping us provide a comprehensive array of services to the needy.

At The ARK, tzedakah (charity) is not merely a check and a tax-deduction. We involve the entire community in solving the problems of the poor, making charity direct. Here, charity is literally extending your hand to help someone.

No special degree is required. Whether you are an expert in dentistry or driving, law or laughter, The ARK and the families who depend on us need you. How you volunteer is limited only by your own imagination. Reach out to the needy in your community and find a truly rewarding experience at The ARK.

Sign up for the time of your life! Call Bonnie Azose, Director of Volunteers, at (773) 973-1000, ext. 283.

Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Counselors and Social Workers Wanted:

Our Psychological Services Program of comprehensive mental health services urgently needs additional volunteer psychiatrists and licensed mental health professionals who would be willing to donate any clinical time—even just a few hours a month. Contact Phil Gross, Director of Psychological Services Program, at 773-973-1000, ext. 254.

Home Visitors Wanted:

Volunteers are needed to visit lonely ARK clients who really appreciate seeing a friendly face. Home-visitors partner with a friend or other volunteer, and read to clients, play games, look at photographs or just schmooze. Contact Bonnie Azose, Director of Volunteers, at 773-973-1000, ext. 283.

Drivers Wanted:

The ARK has a great need for drivers to deliver groceries, pick up and deliver medications, donations, etc. Any amount of time will help! Contact Bonnie Azose, Director of Volunteers, at 773-973-1000, ext. 283.

Barbers and Beauticians Wanted:

Help people to feel better by looking better. The ARK needs a barber once a month to cut men’s hair and a beautician once a month to cut, perm, and dye women's hair. Contact Bonnie Azose, Director of Volunteers, at 773-973-1000, ext. 283.

Translators Wanted:

The ARK needs Russian translators with a good knowledge of English to assist with clients. Contact Bonnie Azose, Director of Volunteers, at 773-973-1000, ext. 283.

English-Language Tutors Wanted:

We are supplementing our English classes with tutors who work one-on-one with our adult students. The results have been fantastic, but we have students waiting for tutors. By sparing just one hour a week, this is a chance to make a difference in someone’s life! Contact Bonnie Azose, Director of Volunteers, at 773-973-1000, ext. 283.

Mentors Wanted:

Our Sidney and Gladys Sharp Kesher Mentoring Program needs adult volunteers to spend quality time with a child from one of our needy families. The experience has proven to be invaluable to the children, their parents and the volunteers. Contact Bonnie Azose, Director of Volunteers, at 773-973-1000, ext. 283.
